LAKE ITASCA, Minn. –Water flows over rocks at the Mississippi River Headwaters May 19. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, is celebrating its 150th anniversary by canoeing the Upper Mississippi River from its headwaters at Lake Itasca to Lock and Dam 10, in Guttenberg, Iowa. Corps staff are volunteering to canoe the river and plan to reach Lock and Dam 10 on Aug. 17, the day Maj. Gouverneur K. Warren, the district’s first commander, established the St. Paul District.
